JKAACL observes Alam Qureshi Day

Prolific Pahari singer, activist and artist, Alam Qureshi, was remembered on his death anniversary here on Wednesday. The programme organized by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Pahari Cultural Club Karnah was attended by a large number of people from various walks of life.
Qureshi enjoys the distinction of being the foremost Pahari activist credited with starting the movement for recognition of the community as a distinct ethnic identity.
The function was presided over by JKAACL Vice President, Zafar Iqbal Manhas. Filmmaker, Mushtaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Pahari singer, Abdul Rashid Qureshi, JKAACL Chief Editors, Mohd. Ashraf Tak and Dr. Mirza Farooq Anwaar were also in the presidium.
In his presidential address Manhas lauded the contribution of late Alam Qureshi to Pahari culture. Crediting Qureshi for inculcating sense of identity among the Paharis, the JKAACL Vice President said that it was on account of efforts of people like Alam Qureshi that Pahari language has been able to make a mark.
Mushtaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Mohd. Ashraf Tak and Dr. Mirza Farooq Anwaar also spoke on the occasion. Later a musical tribute was paid to the eminent activist by Fayaz Ahmad Khan.
As part of the event, annual Alam Qureshi Sangeet award was presented by Pahari Cultural Club Karnah to singer Fayaz Ahmad Khan.
